IDF celebrates the success of World Championship in Nagykanizsa!

With their meaningful motto: ‘Life without dance would be a mistake’ a Hungarian town of Nagykanizsa finally welcomed 1363 dancers who competed in the 11th World Championship in Dance Sport. The vibrant event held between 22nd and 26th May commenced with a breathtaking parade of excited competitors and international crowd led by horse guards and the vibes by local drummers. The procession also included the IDF officials and children in national dresses proudly carrying flags of all the participating nations who travelled through the crowded streets of the delightful town to be welcomed by the Mayor of Nagykanizsa as well as local dancers and a spectacular fireworks display.

The competition once again amazed with an extremely high level of performances by the talented dancers from across the globe. Both the IDF and the local organisers were delighted to host representatives of twenty nations, which in the current economic climate seems a great achievement. Many have travelled from as far as the African Continent to be able to showcase their excellent skills and passion for dance and share the feeling of unity between the IDF Family.

It would be difficult to describe all the excitement and feelings that accompanied the performers and their families throughout the four competition days spread across three stages. Many new World Champions were crowned and many tears of joy were seen.

The IDF would like to thank the Hungarian Dance Federation of the IDF and the town of Nagykanizsa as well as all the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event such a success. A massive thank you also goes to 30 IDF Official Adjudicators, Competition Directors and all IDF staff for their great effort and excellent performance. Well done to all the participating nations with a special mention of the delegation from South Africa whose strong team of exceptional dancers have attended the World Championship for the first time.
